Plain mill finish, hot-dip galvanized, stainless steel.
Most orders come down to one question: how much corrosion protection does the application actually need? Here's how the three most common options compare.
Plain mill finish
As-manufactured steel with no protective coating. The most economical option and the easiest to paint or coat later.
Best for: Indoor, dry, or coated assemblies; parts that will be painted, welded, or used in short-term service.
Hot-dip galvanized
Parts are dipped in molten zinc for a thick, sacrificial barrier that resists rust for decades outdoors. Threads are typically oversized-tapped to fit.
Best for: Structural steel, anchor rods, bridges, towers, and any exterior or buried application exposed to weather.
Stainless steel
Corrosion resistance built into the material itself rather than a coating, so it can't chip or wear off. 316 adds molybdenum for chloride and saltwater resistance.
Best for: Marine, chemical, food and sanitary equipment, and anywhere long-term appearance and washdown resistance matter.
Not sure which to specify? Send us the application and environment with your RFQ and we'll recommend the right finish for the corrosion resistance, durability, and budget your job requires. Zinc plating, mechanical galvanizing, black oxide, phosphate, and coatings like Xylan, Magni, and Geomet are also available.
ASTM, AASHTO, SAE, IFI.
We supply products manufactured and documented to recognized industry standards — so what arrives on your dock matches what your drawing, inspector, and engineer expect.
ASTM
Material and mechanical property standards for bolts, nuts, washers, anchor rods, and coatings — for example A325/F3125 structural bolts and F1554 anchor rods.
AASHTO
Specifications used on highway, bridge, and public infrastructure projects, commonly required by state DOTs.
SAE
Grade and performance standards for automotive, truck, trailer, and heavy equipment fasteners — such as SAE J429 grades 5 and 8.
IFI
Dimensional and design standards for fastener products and features not fully covered elsewhere, keeping parts interchangeable across suppliers.
Compliance isn't paperwork for its own sake. Meeting these standards is what guarantees that a bolt carries its rated load, that a coating lasts in the field, and that a replacement part fits years from now — critical in industrial, construction, transportation, and manufacturing applications. Every certified order ships with material test reports, plating and heat-treat certifications, and lot traceability.
Real expectations, not marketing numbers.
Lead times vary by material availability and quantity. Urgent programs handled case-by-case.
